Food for Thought is a food literacy initiative of the IMS Media Center that aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to choose, grow, prepare, and enjoy healthy food to support their health, community, and the environment. Through these efforts, Food for Thought works to achieve one of the goals of the Citrus County School District Wellness Committee: “To Promote Nutrition Education with the objective of improving students’ health and reducing childhood obesity.”
Food for Thought nutrition education resources and activities include broadened access to cookbooks and literary resources promoting healthful eating, food demonstrations, recipe competitions, and monthly recipe resources that can be created with shelf-stable and easily accessed foods. Activities are created with special care to ensure practical value for food-insecure students.
