Dear Chargers,
I am so excited to start this year with you all! I greatly appreciate your cooperation in all that we have done together to kick off this new school year! Your intentions to being the very best you can creates a culture of profoundly positive impacts on your school and your community!
As we begin this year together, I want to share an announcement of a great gift to our school from your SAC committee. This committee is your very own School Advisory Committee made up of parents, community members and staff. This year our students and staff will endeavor to collectively read a powerful story about a middle school student who has found himself in the unique situation of getting to restart his impact and make powerful changes to his own life and the lives of those he had negatively affected in the past. In his book Restart, author Gordon Korman brings together the voices and perspectives of multiple students who reflect on their own experiences of the harsh behaviors of one individual as he experiences the new perspectives, he begins to find about himself after a frightening accident that changes his life in many ways. This book has a strong anti-bullying message along with themes about forgiveness, empathy, kindness, and reflection. Though the author skillfully writes the characters of his book with humor, it easily carries the emotions with honesty and authenticity. It is an excellent story to invite middle school students to consider and discuss the ways they experience friendship and bullying.
Sincerely,
Mr. Hermann
