A Message from the Principal:
Why is being grateful so important? We want our students to find out in November. Our leadership character trait for November is Gratitude.
We are Chargers! So, let’s tie gratitude to our mascot. We know Benjamin Franklin once put a key on the end of a string with a kite to attract the energy of lightening. It seems to me that gratitude is the key that conducts positive energy. I think a disclaimer is appropriate here, “Kids do not try this at home.”
Gratitude is a skill that can and must be practiced. Those that show gratitude often do it better than those that are new to the act of showing gratitude. Gratitude however is a skill where beginners can show great promise from the start.
Gratitude is a key to success for us. Google says research has proven that practicing the skill of gratitude can help in the following ways, gratitude is so important for all of us as it opens doors to relationships, it improves physical and psychological health. It helps to enhance empathy and reduce aggression and may help people sleep better. Google also says gratitude can improve self esteem and mental strength.
So Chargers, how do we get started with practicing gratitude? It starts with thinking of others first… not ourselves. It can be as simple as the words ‘Thank you” or as elaborate as “I really appreciate you doing that for me.” We can say it, write notes, send texts. It is all good, as long as your heart is in the right place.
I just want to say thank you for all the support I have received from the students, staff and parents of IMS since starting in August. You have given me all the positive support and gratitude a Principal can hope for. So get out there and start practicing Gratitude in November!
Sincerely,
Rob Hermann
